I have a 2019 KR and plan to drive from Wisconsin to Utah for a couple weeks of camping and off-roading. The owners manual says you can remove the front air dam for increased ground clearance. I would prefer to remove it before I leave and not have to deal with it or store it while on my trip. Is anyone aware of any significant consequences by driving a few thousand miles without the air dam? I thinking maybe my fuel mileage may suffer a bit. Anything else I need to worry about?
Thanks everyone. Your feedback was about what I expected, but thought it better to ask than get surprised by something. I'll be leaving the air dam at home.
Removing the lower air dam was one of the first cosmetic modifications I made. On a stock truck it probably is worth something. On a lifted truck, probably not.
I took mine off, then decided to trim it a little. The bottom was scarred up pretty well from dragging on things. If I messed it up, no big deal because it would have went in the dumpster anyway.
Looks nice. Does removing the air dam help or hinder fuel economy.
In theory it should hurt your highway fuel economy. But others have mentioned they haven't seen that, so it must be a very small amount.
Nearly every owner modification Lift, Level, Bigger Tires etc will harm fuel economy a bit, but it's hard to put an exact number on how much, or if you'd even notice it.
JkBrad, that looks great I like how you have trimmed that. I think that looks more finished because the holes are filled. On the MPG's it's very funny how if I drive, both our cars get better MPG's than if my wife drives. just sayin driving style probably effects MPG's more than that 5" of air dam.
Just my opinion.
