Upfitter question

For installing things on the upfitters that require a smaller fuse than what is currently on the upfitters, can you simply just replace the 25 amp fuse with a 15 amp? Or do you just add an inline fuse after the connection to the upfitter?

Neither; the fuse isn’t an issue when drawing lower amperage power

Sure it is, you still have to protect whatever component you hook up to the upfitter switch.

So, yes, I would definitely just add an inline fuse of whatever capacity required to protect the component you add.

That won't be a problem, go right ahead and swap the factory fuse.

If the op is installing an accessorie that risks a "thermal incident" if the full rated amperage of the upfitter go thru it, either the fuse needs to be changed or a second fuse of appropriate amperage needs to be installed. The fuse Ford puts on the upfitter is what they designed the circuit to handle, but no reason it can't be lower, since they have nothing on said circuit.

I’d change the factory fuse to the lower rating. Would be cleaner than a second fuse.

and change the marking, to clear up confusion later if it needs to be changed? Or would it be cleaner to install a smaller rated fuse inline between the device?

It won't hurt a thing to drop fuse sizes to match the connected load, its actually a pretty good idea to do so. It could possibly help prevent an overload from becoming a fire.

it really doesn’t matter. It’s up to you. Both work. I’d prefer to not have an inline fuse holder.

In-line fuse holder is two more splices and something to forget about later when something happens. Replace the upfitter fuse with the correct size for what you installed.

Thanks for all the recommendations, I think I'll just change the fuse in the upfitter box.

The PTO is nowhere near enough. He'll probably need to install a Mr Fusion reactor for the necessary 1.21 gigawatts.
