I have an AMP for my stereo in my truck and it uses a 40A fuse to get its power from the battery. I have never blown this fuse.
I want to know if I can replace this with a 40A breaker? The problem with the fuse is that the connections aren't that good because no connectors are made for it so I need to make them and often the AMP will lose its power.
I don't see a difference between a fuse and a circuit breaker but I am not 100% sure, that's why I am asking.
I'm getting ready to upgrade the stereo in my 94 Ford, which will require an 80 amp fuse under the hood. I'm going with the fuse holder & fuse; #1 because it's cheaper, #2 it's easy to trouble shoot for failure. A breaker's mechanics (internal parts) will most likely fail over some time (may take years though), which mean replacing the entire thing, where as a fuse holder, which only requires changing the fuse; much faster & cheaper process.
If you can't repair what you have, I'd buy a new fuse holder. The only advantage to the breaker, is that "it's more up to date in car audio", and it looks better (but it's out of view, under the hood).
Really what it all boils down to is personal preference!
stick with your fuse system and locate a dealer for proper connectors
the breaker systems are designed to operate must have systems
and will continually reset and operate the system even with a dead short
the headlamps are a perfect example. you can get to a safe place to stop
without total loss of the system
putting that large of a breaker in your system that will continually
reset and send several HUNDRED AMPS down that wire to a dead short
even for only a split second but over and over will start a FIRE
