Transmission Torque Converter Drain Plug

Can anybody tell me where and how to drain the torque converter on 2009 Ford Explorer with the 5 sp 5r55s transmission 2 wd? Also if anybody knows how much fluid to refill if i drop the pan to drain, if i drain without dropping the pan? I would rather drain torque converter. I know it takes about 11.5 qts total. Im assuming thats including the cooler and lines. Thanks in advance.

IIRR, there is no drain plug on the TC. The best way is to dump the pan (to make sure the filter and bottom of the pan is clean), fill with fresh and then DC the return line t the radiator, put a generic hose on the end of it, into a 5 gallon bucket, fire up the engine and let it pump out 3 quarts and refill, continue this until you have filled it with 11..5 quarts. BTW, the engine must be up to operating temp 1st to get the tranny thermostat to open, otherwise you'll have to bypass the thermostat.

There is no drain plug in the torque converter.

Getting the engine up to temp won't open the thermostat in the transmission. The trans needs to get up to 175°F to open the thermostat. The procedure posted above won't work with this trans.

HERE is a procedure that bypasses the thermostat. This was written for different trans and it would need to be modified to work with this trans.
