Timing mark location

So i just replaced my IP and tried starting my 1988 f350 7.3 idi. I could instantly tell the timing is off just a hair. I was pretty sure i had the gears lined up. If so then i just need to advance/retard the pump a bit. I thought i had seen a small circle indention (on the tooth ring just below the teeth) on the second to top gear. The one below the IP gear. I got to thinking about it and remember only ever seeing diagrams with the timing marks on the front. Not really trying to take the front of my motor apart as i need to go get a parts truck that was still running when parked for 800.00. If i have too take it apart then i have too take it apart. Just wondering if they ended up stamping both sides of the gears with timing marks or just the one side? Thank you in advance.
