HELP NEEDED: timing gear question
Thanks,
Doubt it. I'm not an expert but it seems to me that a wandering timing mark is more likely the result of rough idling and/or a faulty distributor advance system(vacuum leaks perhaps?) . Remember that you have a 6 banger and a missing tooth in the timing gears will give you a much bigger headache. I'm talking about serious misfiring or not even being able to start the damm thing or keep it running iif you did.
But again I don't even know what model and year your ride is.
Good Luck!
I guess I was more interested in knowing what symptoms you would get if the timing gears were just worn, not broken. This miss has been driving me crazy for a year, gradually getting worse. Everything that I have ever known to cause a miss has been checked two or three times (I've been messing with engines for over forty years). I'm so frustrated with it that I'm about to change engines. The only reason I haven't is that, if I change it, I'll never know what the problem is, and that will drive me even crazier. So I was wondering if badly worn gears could give you a miss; that is something I haven't checked.
Thanks
