Exclamation changing upper & lower Ball-Joints, HELP!

Hi guys, well it's time to change my upper and lower ball-joints on my 1990 Bronco! I have never changed ball-joints before. Are there any special tools needed? Can you guys briefly explain (or lengthy) how to actually change Ball-Joints. Thanks a bunch for all your help!!

Check this site out. It has the info you will need. Usually the only off the wall item is the spanner wrench for the bearing nut.

The one I posted glosses over probably the hardest part, which is removing the spindle. It's been talked to death on this forum, but basically you use a gear puller to take it off. Do a search for explicit details. If yours are on half as good as mine were, you won't be getting them off any other way.

i did my upper & lower balljoints 2 weeks ago my spindle came off rather easy with a chisel 4 wacks did it without any damage to spindle. if your going to get any special tools get the balljoint press made it alot easier removing old and installing new balljoints.

OK But I do have one question tho...someone once said that the passenger side spindle pulls right out...But what about the drivers side? I have heard stories about it being a pain in da butt.

That is getting the entire axel shaft out for removal of the knuckle so you can get to the ball joints.

Other way around. The driver's side axle pulls right out, the passenger side is held in place by the rubber boot. 30 seconds with a pair pliers solves that problem. Once you break one of the bands on the boot it pops right out too.

As for the spindles, there is no difference between the driver's and passenger's side. As stated, though, it's hit and miss whether they come right out. I tried chisels, hammers, and everything else in my arsenal to get it off. Gave up and bought a puller. Even then I thought I would break the puller. Spent probably about 3 hours on that alone.

and when you put the mess back together, slather it (spindle) with ANTI-SEIZE so it's goes like butter next time you need to pull it.
