Truck Bed Replacement
I've looked around for just bed floor replacements but can't find anything more than patch panels. Am I going to have to buy an entire bed or is there a source to just get the floor of the bed?
The floor in mine was rotten. When I cut out the unsound area of rust, I was left with about half a bed. The cross beams were still solid and enough of the floor remained to provide support. I went with a wooden deck made from eight foot 1x4s of "white wood" (eight foot bed). I chose boards over plywood because boards are easier to handle and when they get damaged, I only need to replace the affected boards rather than a whole ply sheet. I laid the boards out and ran sheet metal screws through the wood and remaining floor. It took about 15 boards, a box of screws, and a pint or so of oil based paint: $115 plus the paint I had on hand. Resistant enough that one board can support me (200+ lbs) standing half a brick without crushing. On areas that are unsupported between cross members, I can walk on the deck with no significant flex or sag. Designed for function, it looks good. Had I been less worried about wear/damage, I could have used marine grade stain and had a very sharp looking bed.
I never thought of a wood floor option or anything else, my mind was just on replacing the floor of the bed with a factory floor. Now I've got all kinds of possibilities in my head!
Thanks!

My old Chevrolet stepside had OEM wood, oak. You could go with teak $$$.
My last trailer I made from a wrecked '79 F-150 ... I made 4 cross members of steel, included a strip for bolts at front and mid way but recess a bit at the rear for 1/8" steel across ends, Used carriage bolts to fasten 2x6 pressure treated boards to front and third cross members, then at very rear secured with a single 2x2x1/8 steel angle to protect the exposed ends to loading, that trailer was made in the '80s, still has the wood. Not mine now, but fellow has it likes it, keeps stored in his patch of woods. It tilts too, I did lower it with a flip later.
