I have a new to me 6.9 Idi with the push button glow plug upgrade. I’m sure this question has been asked, I tried searching but didn’t find an answer. The wait to start light stays illuminated while running. Diesels are new to me and I’m not sure what the problem is. Any help is appreciated thank you.
since there is a number of different ways to Modify the Glow Plug system, it almost impossible to answer that question without knowing how the last owner wired it.
it could be a stuck Glow Plug Relay or as simple as the wire harness is shorted.
the first thing I would do is disconnect the Lamp from the controller as the controller may be failed and causing this issue and the PO didn't address the problem.
NOW there was a TSB to upgrade your truck to the new style controller... I have posted that in the past too it shouldn't be hard to find.
so IF you have the new Controller and not the old style you might look at that TSB for more info.
