I'm new to this I have a 1986 F250 6.9 and I wanted to change the glow plug controller to the newer style 1987. Is this possible and what would I need to complete this project.
Thanks
sure you can... you need the Controller Assy along with the correct Glow Plugs and the correct Harness for the Plugs.
Then just look up the Schematic and wire it in ... also NOTE: you will have to pull the Instrument Bezel to get to the wait to start light and Re-wire how it gets it's power.
Most folks just Opt for the Manual Control Option, as the Timers seem to be a constant source of Headache.
I went the manual route back when I had glow plugs, it's so easy with the early style, just a push button to the terminal on the glow plug relay that uses the purple wire. Simply clip it off, replace it with your new wire and its done.
Your glow plug light will continue to work as well.
