Also, I just dragged home a COE chassis/bed that turns out to be a '48. Couldn't find a frame stamping, but the trans bell housing is stamped *88RT33839*
An older friend gave it to me because I had once admired the Brownie behind the gearbox and he's getting rid of projects. He has installed a Chrysler 301 V8 with adapter plates to the ford 4 spd.
It has 3 split ring wheels of various heritage and 3 RH5's. Single spd differential.
I've never had a COE before so it's giving me something to investigate. Any input is greatly appreciated.
Not much to look at...
Update: 1948 appears to be correct
COE it is NOT
Measurements as I unwind things reveals a standard 158" wb standard truck F6 chassis.
It looks like someone found some COE parts and started a farm conversion. I have the steering gearbox from a COE and a lot of cobbled together attempts to make it all work.
They bolted on a 15'6" flatbed that would be more at home on my 176" wb 52 F6.
Good news: 3 good wheels, 3 widow-makers so from my other trucks I can come up with a full set of good wheels
Also, the double wall frame is in excellent condition so it will become the foundation of my 48 F6 rebuild.
Brownie overdrive unit is a bonus.
Oddity: It has a single speed rear end under it like an F5 which doesn't match the double wall frame?
The guy I got the chassis from indicated he wanted to keep it, but the last time we discussed it he seemed less sure. I'll ask again and let you know if it's available. You're first in line.
