Fuel Leak

Might be a simple fix but wanted to ask you all with more knowledge. I am running both the plastic see through filter, as well as the factory one threaded into the carb. I replaced the plastic one a couple months ago, and about a week ago it started leaking at the hose connection. on the outlet side. I swapped out the clamp it came with, with one of the screw type hose clamps. Didn't make any difference, was still dripping. So I replaced it with a new filter. Well I go to start the truck this morning and its leaking again! The clamp is tight, so I am at a loss. These filters are cheap, but I don't want to be spending $8 a week replacing them. I guess its possible I got a crappy part, but after dealing with this should I just scrap it and only run with the single filter? Or should I just lengthen the fuel hose between the plastic and metal filter and see if that makes a difference?

I am guessing you are running both filter because of rust from the tank(s)?
I also run the same set up (2 filters non-see through) but that's what my truck came with and being lazy did not want to make a new line from pump to carb with flared ends.
I also found out not long ago I have a rust issue from 1 of my tanks so the other day after pulling the carb, cleaning it and making sure the adjustments were good I installed a see through filter so I can find what tank has rust.
Now when I first put the carb back on I also had a leak but it was coming from the flare fitting at the carb filter and running down the metal line and dripping to the manifolds.
It did look like it was a rubber hose. Take your finger and first check the filter to carb if leaking there.
Then move to the flare fitting if wet or dry. Then down to the hose. This is the only way I know you can find where the leak is coming from.

Also note that the line / hose is 5/16" if larger (like 3/8") the screw clamps will not keep it leak free. I could not pull fuel from a can on the fender through new pump using 3/8" hose on the suction side of pump as it was pulling air even with 2 screw clamps.

Nope no rust actually. I am not sure how long the PO had the plastic one on there, but it looked very old. So I replaced both the plastic and the metal filter. Doing so I exposed a bad carb gasket between the carb and intake. Replaced that, problem solved. But this is now the 2nd plastic filter that is leaking in the same spot, which is right after the outlet going towards the metal filter. And I know 100% its coming from there because when I moved the plastic one just a little with my hand, it started spraying from that clamp. I think I am just going to get a foot of fuel line, and go straight from the metal line running over the valve cover, to the filter on the carb. I like the idea of an extra in line filter, but at this point its turning into more of a hassle.

Were you sure the hose was 5/16 and the nipples on the filter was the same size?
If you were using 3/8 hose then the clamp could not tighten it.
I could not get my fuel pump to pull gas from a can on the fender well and the hose had a screw clamp that was tight.
Once I went with the 5./16 hose all was good.
Do you have a picture of this filter that was leaking?
This is what I am running for my see through filter and by the part number I believe is for 5/16 hose.

They do have one for 3/8 hose FF3-8 DL and a 1/4 hose FF1-4 DL

yessir same exact filter, 5/16. I only know that because I replaced all of the hose from the metal line to the carb. I tightened everything down but kept leaking. I was thinking that if I lengthened the hose segment AFTER the plastic in-line to the filter threaded into the carb, that might solve my problems, but I just went ahead and got rid of it. Tank is clean, so the metal filter should work for me.

So 1 less filter and longer hose did the trick of no more leak?

A few weeks back on my weekly trash run my son & I smelt gas and thought it strange?
Popped the hood and found a hose leaking at the same place yours was.
It was also dripping on the manifolds! Not good unless you want to cook something when it went on fire!
I was lucky to have a screw driver in the truck and was able to tighten it and all has been good.

yessir! just ran hose from the metal fuel line going over the manifold, straight to the filter threaded into the carb. That’s exactly where mine was dripping onto also, and the last thing I want to do is stand on the side of the highway and watch it go up in flames. My filters were all clean so it’s not like the extra one was necessary because of a dirty tank, and especially since it was just causing problems.
