I recently bought a 2000 f150 with the 5.4 triton. Since buying it a rattle has started to occur on acceleration. It only seems to happen on the first and sometimes second acceleration after starting it and usually only after it has been driven that day. Has anyone else experienced this or have any ideas what it could be? I appreciate any help.
Yu say rattle, after just starting to accelerate. How many miles is on the truck as it sounds like the valves are not getting the oil they need from the pump when accelerating. Ford says to change the oil pump around 130,000 miles. Have seen the Ford stock oil pump explode at below 100,000 miles and wiping out other stuff when it goes.(There are better oil pumps than Fords with high output). Note: My 18-year-old granddaughter can testify to this on her 1999 4x4 when the oil pump went and she learned how to build an engine. I called it bonding, she called it something else after breaking a few nails. If you change the oil pump go ahead and change the timing chains and all while there.
The next thing is the gas you put into the truck as not all gas is the same as some have more corn byproduct than they should. (Test this by putting a good octan bost in and see if it changes).

Thank you. It is sitting around 103,000 miles. I'll definitely check into those things.
Could be the catalytic converts. When the internals break they can shake and rattle. As they heat up and expand the rattling could slow or stop which would explain why the rattling goes away shortly after startup.
