I just replaced ball joints on my 98 f150 off road and can tell you I bought and used the 36 mm after reading it was the correct socket. However it was a sloppy fit so i can def. tell you 36mm is probably not the correct size for your truck either. I dont know what your planning to do but if you live where there is salt on the road in the winter make sure to get yourself a good 3 jaw puller and sledge to get the axle to start sliding out.....My axle was frozen in the hub and took over six hours of pb blaster, pullers, and beatings to dislodge it
i have a 97 f150 4.6 cant find the right size socket for the spindle so would mine be 1 3/8 also 5 bolt hub tried a 34mm ' 1 9/16 1 5/16 all to small can any 1 help me thank you
Ours is a 35mm axel nut socket. It doesn't come in an axel nut removal kit it must be purchased separately as the kit only has even numbers.
QUOTE=96f150;6194014]I have read a few different posts and one says 1 3/8" and others say 36mm. What size is the axle nut on a 2001 4x4?
Thanks

I couldn't find a 35mm when I needed it so I grabbed a 36mm. The 36mm will work but as others have said it's sloppy and not ideal when you consider how much tq you need to apply to break it free.
36 wouldn't work for us, we went to advanced auto and purchased the 35mm socket which is in stock in the "tools" section in the aisle, not with the "sockets" up front. Even the lady at the counter didn't know that lol. I'm not sure where your from, but the other places that carry it are Home Depot, lowes, sears/Kmart, napa auto, auto zone, and pep boys. Using the wrong size socket can warp your tools and the axle nut itself.
Auto Zone & Advanced Auto loan out those big sockets & pullers along with alot of other tools. I always check with them when i need a tool not often used. You just have to leave a deposit then get it all back when you return it.
