i have the weathertec in channel ones. No tape, slides in, and there is a metal clip for the front tip which I think is a guide and not a retainer.
they hVe been installed for 3.5 years and look and function as new.
maybe if you install right away on a new truck you get better results than on a older truck…..don’t know.
my previous truck I used a brand that involved the double stick tape. That worked good enough. It, after I blew off my hood defector in a car wash at the air dry station , my confidence in double stick tape diminished.
being older and wiser, i have learned if you have something that faces the elements that uses double stick tape….don’t use the white interior tape that everyone provides….use the black exterior tape instead.
Mine was installed on a brand new truck, however I still used alcohol wipes to prep the rubber seal they stick too. IIRC these also came with VHB tape, not the cheap white foam tape. My issue was that it interfered with the windows rolling back up and I had to push out on the visors to get them up every time. This eventually led to them breaking and I imagine it has interrupted the seal enough that it won’t hold forever either… I figure this comes down to a combination of manufacturing tolerances of the visor, the rubber seal and the door frame. On all of these in channel visors you will come across plenty of folks with them that worked without a problem, and then others that had issues from the beginning. I haven’t seen the ones with the metal clips though. Maybe I’ll have to look into those.
For a little less money, like $40 less IIRC, you can get Wade in channel vents. They look like Weather Techs. There are no clips and no tab thingy to jamb behind your mirror trim. No sponge/foam tape. Uses a 3M adhesive. Summit Racing and many of those on-line truck boutique sites will have them.
Put them on 1st week I had the truck. The front passenger side will still balk at me from time to time a year later and I fiddle with the control to get the window up. But they look nice, function well and not afraid of the car wash.
