The intake manifold was replaced.....OR -
The original engine was swapped out and replaced.
Hence, the intake manifold casting number is all that is displayed, which is showing a revised 1976- and later
[[b]D6VE] D= 1970 decade - 6= number year (1976)
Date casting code is near the casting number on the intake manifold, as I am curious what year intake it actually is, but definitely not an original 1974 model year manifold.
Engine block date casting code unfortunately on 429-460 (385 series big blocks) are located on top of the lifter gallery, which means one would need to remove intake manifold to access the date casting code....
Check each cylinder head date casting code also (inside valve cover) as an original head casting number for a 1974 model year I believe were A2A (issued for 1973 and later)
What we all posted so far only generates possible information on originality on engine components, however trying to determine if the engine itself has been "rebuilt" is another story which will not indicate anything by looking at a picture of an intake manifold casting number....
I can only speculate the engine could be rebuilt, or could only be overhauled, or could be as little done to it upon only swapping the intake manifold, which for sure is not the original intake manifold for a 1974 model year as mentioned earlier in this post....
Did you hear the engine run ?
Did you do a compression check on the cylinders ?
Did you look at the valve springs to see if they were new ?
Is the rest of the engine clean all the way around ?
Does the engine feel peppy and strong performing ?
These are questions that must be answered (that a picture posted cannot answer) to determine if an engine was possibly rebuilt, rather than being told it was rebuilt which could just be some form of lip service upon speculation from the source.
