HI,
I know this may not be the right forum. But it seems there is a lot of good info here. I'm having trouble finding generator related forums dealing with the genset. I just bougth a Onan 70.0 Kw genset with a 7.5 L engine and a single barrel gasoline carb. I think it was built in 1983. It has 153 hours on the meter, I hope that is correct. It's hard to read the block number, I think it's D9TE-AB. Are the parts the same for the industrial (if that is what this is?) and the truck engines? I'm getting ready to tear it down for a cleaning and don't want buy the wrong parts to put it back together. Any help would be great.
Hey,
I've been having trouble any finding info. The engine has a rear sump oil pan. If that makes any difference. It looks like something that would be in a pickup.
It is gasoline. I've run it. Runs really good. It seems to use a lot of gasoline with no load. But I don't know how much gas it should use?
I'm waiting for an operators manual and part catalog for the EN genset from ebay . Maybe that will shed some light on this. If I got lucky and its the right one.
I can take more pictures. I am very grateful for any help.
sold lots of those 460's over the years as standby engines for water pumps. they are the same engine as used in the trucks and Vans from 79 to 86ish. before they went to the fuel injected engines. they used better valves and valve seats meant for propane and natural gas applications as this was the way the majority of them were configured. so parts are plentiful at all parts stores. they have a 4 barrel intake with square bore (holley pattern). the carb you are probably looking at is probably a propane or natural gas mixer bolted to the manifold. not the same engine as used in medium duty trucks.
great engines, ran for ever. lots used on remote pump jacks here in Alberta that ran 24/7/365.
I thought your engine looked familiar. Here's a thread by @KubotaOrange76 . In his thread he bought a 460 powered generator and also did some research on it. Have a gander at his thread.
hey,
Yes it is gasoline and runs good.
Yes, I'm planning on keeping it a generator. It seems to use a lot of gas with no load. I'm guessing that it takes a lot of fuel to overcome the base internal resistance of the engine. I hope it's on more efficient at higher loads.
if you would like me to send you a pdf service manual for the ford industrial engine please pm me your email address and i can email you a link, its a good size file - 38mb

I have a 460 generator engine that ran on propane and was turbocharged. Yes, I still have the turbo and propane injection stuff. No, you don't want to try to run this turbo setup on any normal car or truck engine, it's sized to provide lots of torque at 1800 rpm, which is where a 4 pole generator making 60 Hz power runs. It looks like a turbo suitable for a lawnmower. Best thing about my engine, besides the fact that I saw it run and it's clean inside, is that it has flat top pistons.
