If you want to try used then maybe a junkyard would be more convenient. One out of a wrecked truck that was presumably running when wrecked might be a good deal. No telling about the Amazon used one and you will be stuck with downtime and shipping back and forth if it is not good. I have several yards to choose from near me though.
Bought a reman 140amp unit from my local parts store, it's meant for a dual alternator setup, so wires were installed off to the side. Cost $170. I had the batteries fully charged with a maintainer at 14.4volts, started it up and checked right away. They were at about 12.8volts immediately after starting, but within 30 seconds both were right back up to full charge! Thanks for all the help guys, I'm back in business.
Post 22, the later model trucks with the 140a have connections to the side; it has nothing to do with dual alternators.
Gotcha thank you for that correction! I just went by what the parts guy said lol. I've got the smaller Pulley on order, should have that on in a couple days.
10 years from now a newbie will stumble into this thread trying to get the 6.0 he found in a cave and will get confused, wondering if he has the wrong alternator. So I’m being a PITA.
That position is actually better. It’s a larger case and if the connections were on top like mine are, it stresses the wires in tension. Ford didn’t give a lot of wire, and I’ve has to replace the connector, splicing the replacement with a little longer connection and less stress.

Good move on the pulley - it absolutely made a difference on mine. And so did the wiring updates that Jack has helped us all with, which I encourage you to consider....

I definitely plan to equip my truck with some accessories in the future that'll require a larger output alternator and heavier gauge wiring, where would I find the thread you're referring to?
