If you check the alternator output before the glow plugs turn off, the voltage will be low due to the demand. You have to wait 2 minutes after a restart unless the engine is fully hot. Cold, the alternator should supply 14+ volts, diminish to 13.8 when hot.
Any alternator output over 180a will require a supplemental cable to the battery in parallel with the stock cable.
Was looking at the mean green 200amp alternator, or the XDP high output 230amp from blessedperformance. So you're saying with either of these I would need a wiring upgrade? If so I'm just going to go with the 140amp.
Can anyone give me a link or part number for the 140amp alternator? Car quest guy can only find 130 or 135 amp ones but they're the 'lower' one for a dual setup.
Target the 2007 model year, single alternator, optional top 135/140a. The 135 and 140 are the same in actuality. The electrical connections will be clocked to the side, the harness changed with later models.
The ideal for a 140a is to use a smaller diameter pulley to slightly overclock the alternator and get more amps at the lower, idle RPMs. Or when cold let it idle for 2 minutes before doing or tuning on anything else.

Gotcha I'll call them again tomorrow. What size pulley do I need? Assuming I'll have to order or buy that separately?
Sure wish I could rep you Jack - you weigh in on so many threads, with such sage advice... Well thank you for the new ones, to the old ones that need to be reminded...
I have it; I've tested it on YouTube. A direct fit on the 2003 6.0.
For me, it's been a good alternator. With the newer production, some here have had warranty issues - Bosch will only warranty it if used on a different truck, I believe in the 450 or 550 range or something else with a 6.0; Amazon says it will fit, and they are right. Amazon is terrible at dealing with a warranty and won't support you. I believe it's also available at Advance Auto. At the time I think I paid about $150 for it on Amazon.

Thanks, Scott. No need, I just posted before someone else.

Thank you for the advice! I didn't think about Amazon and warranty issues. Hey I saw on there you could get a 'used' one for just over $61. Would this be worth risking??
