For the right price, which is well under that $2500 I like it as an upgrade. Most truck/Auto companies are going that way. It is for sure a better look then the Ram screen.
I don't think the screen can be upgraded from the 2017 to 2021 models with the 8" screen. I just pulled the entire dash apart on our new 2022 to color match all of the trim and it looks like the main dash assembly is completely different.
We have the 12" + Sync 4 in a new 2021 F-150. I like it, looking forward to using it in the 2022 F-350. Sync 4 doesn't seem much buggier than Sync 3 was in the 2020 F-350. Most of the issues I see are actually with Android Auto. If I feel the need to go back to a simpler day in time, I can grab my carry case of cassettes and drive the 1993 F-350 XLT. I'm still kinda mad at it for eating my Beach Boys tape.
I still don't understand all the excitement about a bigger screen. What does it do better than the current screen besides being bigger? Other than wireless Android auto/carplay, which I'm sure is a big deal for those that use it.

did anyone find out if this was even possible. I want the new display look for my 2019 f150.

you’re gonna need the upper dash, the radio bezel, the APIM, the screen, you’ll have to modify the connector to the APIM I think you have to cut 2 wires or something. Since you won’t be able to connect to fords networks you won’t be able to use navigation either. The only thing you’re gaining is the 12” screen and wireless CarPlay beyond that you’re not getting anything worth the effort. Ford is already ditching sync 4 and moving to android automotive(not to be confused with android auto). So sync 4 is already a dead platform
For me Android Auto and Apple Car play WIRELESS is a huge deal... Will the steering wheel controls work? If they do i don't really use any other Ford sync festures... BTW thanks for the reply i have a Limited 2019 and i really want to keep this truck for at least 10 years... Are there any features that Android Auto doesn't have that i would be missing? Thanks

Android automotive(not to be confused with Android auto) will most likely have Google maps as it’s navigation. It will be less quirky I imagine also! Wireless CarPlay, get the dongle it’s much cheaper and probably works better. Sync 4 wireless CarPlay on the sync 4 likes to drop connection often
I put an AM 10" Android head unit in my Ranger. When the headlights come on it triggers dark mode which I like better 24/7 so I turn on the fog lights if I'm going any distance. Eventually, I'll just connect the light lead to power and be done with it.
Is there a dark mode on the Ford unit? Maybe a Forescan setting?

You are very right i will get a dongle. ill just wait till there is a high quality android screen the 3rd party ones on YouTube seem kind of slow
