96 f150 4.9l 5 speed. Someone disconnected the coolant temp sensor on the thermostat housing and replaced with wjth a mechanical gauge so now the ecu has no input from it. It runs poorly when it gets to operating temp and gets terrible gas mileage. How do i buy a new one and wire it in? They removed the wiring to it.

Im assuming this is the connector for it? It seems to run directly to the ecu

Don't know on a 4.9 exactly where the ECT sensor is, but that looks like where your under hood courtesy light would plug in.

Thanks good to know, i geuss someone removed it or it wasnt ordered with one? But i found the wiring for the ect it was hidden under the intake

When that coolant sensor isnt hooked up, the computer tells the injectors to run rich so the engine will get warmer quicker...in other words, after you fix the sensor issue, you will probably need to blow out some carbon by running a can of seafoam in the gas tank & hammering the throttle several times on the highway.
