I have a 2003 F-150 4x4 Lariat, Super Crew.
Short backstory: I got this truck as a freebie from a relative (engine was described by a dealership mechanic as seized due to low/no oil). The family member had it maintained at the dealership since new and is only one owner. I believe it has about 170k miles on it and brand new set of very nice tires, for what it's worth. (I mean, the tires are worth quite a bit)
I am thinking about hiring a friend/mechanic to put a used engine in the truck for me. The truck will get used on a somewhat limited basis, not a daily driver.
So far my list of parts to replace "while we're at it" includes basics such as Coil packs, plugs, water pump, Serpantine belt, Filters (air and oil). It also requires a new battery.
My question is what other parts (aside from the motor) should a person in my shoes have him replace while the motor swap is happening?
Any used engine is suspect, pull the front cover and replace the timing components and the oil pump. By 150k these components are done and the oil pump normally takes out the engine.
cheap truck, get a motor you know runs and roadkill it (install and run it)
I wouldn't stick a bunch of time or money it it
you can replace 99% of a vehicle and something will still fail on it, no sense in replacing it if you don't know for sure it's broke
