94.5 powerstroke

Hi
Was wondering what parts engine wise are compatible with a 96.I have a 94.5 powerstroke 5 speed that's using a lot of oil and found a 96 auto that the seller says the trany main pump is gone.No oil left in trans and inspection plate was removed to diagnosis was main pump.I,m think that's a costly fix so was thinking of buying the truck for the motor.I think most of the truck would make a good parts truck but what are the differances between the two as one is an auto and one manual.
thanks

The swap is very easy to accomplish. I personally would find it worth while to do! As for what all is different, I understand the electronics, engine internals and turbo are the big differences. I havent messed around much with any IDI's, so i couldnt say for certain, other then they share the same bolt patterns and can be swapped easily.

Are you trying to swap the motor from the 96 to your 94.5? If so, Its a straight swap... Its the same engine.

Yes that was the plan, should have made the question more clear. Is the computer etc the same on both trucks.I wondering how much of the parts truck I can use as spares on my 94.5 with the 5 speed. The parts truck has a nicer body but the easiest I think would be to swap motors instead of coverting the other truck to a 5 sp with my parts.

Its probably going to be the same amount of work whether you swap motors or swap tranny's. I'm not sure about the computers. I think you can use the auto one for both. But you can't use the manual one for both... I could be wrong. It only works one way though.

If he has a 94.5 then it's the DI engine, not the IDI.

automatic and manual pcms are not interchangeable.

the belts are different as well as all the pulleys but you can use the 96 pulleys on the 94. Just not the other way around. the 96 has a wider belt.

A couple sensors are pipe threaded instead of o ring seal on the 94. the 94 oil cooler rear header is likely to be the recalled one too. You can sure use the one off the 96 if your relief valve doesn't have the snap ring.

I'm using a 97 for parts on my 94.

Keep your all metal radiator. Also keep the water pump and thermostat off the 96. The 94 and 96 models use a different thermostat that cannot be interchanged!!!! I personally like the newer long stem thermostat better. A lot f people like the old hotter one better but I've never seen melted pistons in a 95 and up model caused by a bad thermostat either so......

Also your HPOP and front engine cover are different. it has to do with how the oil drainback works for the hpop reservoir.
