Hello:
We just bought a new camper and have only 1/2" clearance between the side of the camper and the tailgate opening. We are thinking of buying a new Ford F-350, and wonder if someone has a dimension of this width.
I have a 19 F-350, and I know I have it lined up right when I can almost get my index finger in the space on each side. Same with the wheel wells, but I raise the camper up above the wheel wells using the jacks. As long as it's straight, which is the hardest part, you can lower one side or the other to move it side to side slightly while lowering. If it's straight. Damn hard getting square and perpendicular with a 8 ft bed and dually. haha. Camper is an AF 1140.
Loading is a pain for sure which is why I think so many folks simply leave their campers on their truck. We found we do better if my wife drives and I direct (if she directs it is hopeless, but don't tell her that or I will be sleeping on the couch and we have to stay really tight to the passenger side so a finger width is about it. We also shift side-to-side with the jacks. It has gotten easier with practice and so far we are still married so that is bound to be a good sign.

We have a 2015 Chevy Silverado 3500HD. The local Chevy dealer indicated that they had to have a body shop modify the box of a new truck to fit campers. I don't think I want to do this. We have a 2021 Bigfoot 9.6.

Firstly, I want to thank Jim Crewser for the great information source he provided.
A new GM 3500HD has a box width at the tailgate of about 59"; Ford has 60.5". The GM dealer sold a truck to a guy with a camper and it was a 'tight' fit. Dealer took truck to body shop where they cut the lip where the tailgate would rest, folded it partly in, re-welded and re-applied Linex. It was about $1000 job.
It may be easier to buy a Ford, although we have had 3 GM's back to back.
Glad they had the dealer do it so warranty voiding isn't a future issue....hopefully......
And since yer already signed up on here, might as well make it a Ford! No sense wasting all that effort to create an account and not use it!

Hmmmm I had an Arctic Fox 1150 and a Host Mammoth and they both have 48 boxes and set between the wheel wells. The only thing I can think of that would require this would be short bed slide in on a long bed truck....
Host Mammoth which is 11'6" long no cutting required...
