I will be sure to keep my old one. I just replaced my gear shifter because the over drive button was faulty. A year ago I replaced the combo (turn signal) switch for $93. Now it's ~$300.
Little by little all the functioning parts on this truck are being replaced. After 21 years, it's to be expected I guess.

I selectively replaced all of those items including the electrochromatic mirror, those parts are rapidly disappearing.
Standard Motor Products appears to be an aftermarket supplier, I remember my switch had the Ford markings on it, and the sticker, his Ebay item has the identifier numbers ground off. Either way I think it will be fine. I studied the pin out for both plugs, and had already tested junkyard switches from the Mercury Mountaineer, and such. This allowed me to learn that the switches with Auto will not work, the Auto switches also have an interior dome light off or maybe on setting when the instrument dimmer wheel is rotated all the way past either dim, or full bright, I can't remember.
Rock Auto is selling the the SMP switch too.
He never stated what was wrong with his, There are tiny plastic dowel posts on one half on the switch that pass through holes then melted. I had to slice off the melted spots on the one I opened up, and was able to re-melt most of them back. but it was not a secure assembly anymore.

I remember replacing my electrochromatic mirror in Jan 2000. I thought I bought the last one. They last about 18-20 years. Surprisingly you can still get one but they are in short supply. The part number is YC3Z-17700-AA

My switch is working fine. The **** is loose and rattles when I hit bumps in the road. I tried to pull the **** off but it's pretty secure so I don't want to break it. The fact that it's on the shaft securely tells me the shaft must be loose inside the switch.
Again to clarify, my Excursion is a 2001 Limited with a 7.3, and has factory fog lights. I've serched everywhere for a new OEM and they are unavailable (Ford 1C7Z-11654-DAA / Motorcraft SW-5624). I ordered the "Standard Motor Products DS-1356 Headlight Switch" from Amazon, the same part suggested by Mr 01_Excursion as he bought one some time ago from an eBay vendor. I found it strange when I sent the eBay vendor a message with my vehicle description, and they replied "No, your Excursion used DS1353". The DS1353 doesn't have provisions for the fog lights, the DS-1356 does. The link Mr 01_Excursion provided shows the DS1356 and it looks right, has the exact functions I need, but the Rock Auto description shows two OEM part numbers totally different than the one Ford provided me (Ford 1C7Z-11654-DAA / Motorcraft SW-5624). I'm trusting 01_Excursion's experience and ordered the DS1356 from Amazon. If there's a problem, Amazon is pretty easy to deal with.
Can this get any more confusing?
You can also use the same switch from an Explorer or Expedition...can't remember. The only difference is it sits a little at an angle and not flush so to speak. This is what I used on the wife's 2000 Excursion when I installed fog lights.

Today the DS1356 ordered from Amazon was installed today and thanks to 01_Excursion's recommendation, I now have a fresh new headlight switch. Thank you Sir!
