Need some advice on putting a clutch fan on my 77 F259 with a 429. My current setup is direct drive fan which roars. I purchased a clutch but I don’t have enough clearance between clutch and radiator. Is there a different fan with a big hub that would bolt to back side of clutch that would allow mt to still use spacer and bolts that I’m using now? I have seen the big non metal fans with a large hub but need to be pointed in the right direction. Thx for the help in advance.
Yes you have to get the fan for the clutch it's different. the one on my 429 came off a Mercury with a 429 in it. I'm sure it fits many applications for Ford vehicles with A/C .
Go to this site and find the shortest clutch with the correct bore and hub bolt circle for the water pump,,go to Summit and find the largest, most blade fan that fits the truck and the clutch.
Have be careful when getting the fan clutch. Replaced mine once and of course bought the HD replacement. It locked up tighter and at a lower temp than original, you could feel it pull down the engine when driving and very loud. Must have suck 5 or 10 hp. Went back to original and called it a day.
This is the reason I’m back. Always great help. I know my question was inevitably asked before. I did do a search and weeded thru but couldn’t find what I was looking for. Many thanks to all of you guys for the help. With the modifying of these trucks it’s trial by error. Having the resources to ask makes it go quicker. Thanks again to all.
