I recently bought a 1999 Ford F-350 7.3L Powerstroke and I'm noticing things wrong with it. first is no power to the ignition box so key doesn't work unless you hook the ignition to the battery. Second is there is no power getting to the fuel pump same situation as the ignition. The blower motor for Heat and A/C doesn't work, windshield wipers don't work, windshield washer fluid doesn't work, glow plugs don't work either and I live in Montana so I kinda need glow plugs. radio has power but will not play anything. Any ideas of what to look for or any pointers of where to start.
Yes i have checked the fuses and fuse box condition and all are good. Yes i have checked both fuse boxes and the connectors.
For the glow plugs a common issue is a bad GP relay. You can bypass the relay with a heavy screwdriver bridging the big terminals on the GPR. Be careful, you want the amps to go to the GPs, not your hand. 30 seconds should plenty to warm up the GPs.
Maybe the GPs themselves are bad. You can test their resistance to see if they are healthy. I think this thread from the Tech Folder has info on the testing.
Sounds like lots of electrical gremlins but I'm thinking GPs are the priority.
Have you inspected the GEM under the dash for water damage? HVAC blower might just be the resistor. Fuel pump could be a number of things, but check the inertia switch in the passenger footwell kick panel, then grab a multimeter.
There are a lot if things going on here, pick one and hunt it down. Yo may find the others fall in line.
How long have you owned this truck? Have there been any other recent repairs or maintenance done? What are you referring to when you mention the ignition box? If the inertia switch checks out the relay for it is in the dash right of the steering column below the radio.
