Question TPMS Confusion

Recently purchased a 2017 F-350 Lariat DRW w/6.7L. Our new 5th wheel comes in next week from the factory, and I’d like to use the built-in TPMS for the trailer... but I don’t want the Ford camera for the trailer. I keep seeing posts that talk about and show a trailer sensor unit that is mounted to the trailer.

Is there any way to simply add sensors on the wheels, and have the truck sense them? I’d like to stay away from aftermarket if I can... less screens. Why use a second screen if the dash has TPMS in it?

Tried searching, but only found posts that seem to mention cameras, too, and are older (18 and earlier). Hoping newer options exist.

Thank you

You can buy just the TPMS kit or you can buy the TPMS with camera. It comes either way

Thanks. I’ll look that up and see what’s involved.

The TPMS kit will come with four sensors, replacement 7 pin/12 pin connector, a repeater box and mounting hardware. The repeater needs to be mounted on the trailer close to the axles and is then hardwired into the truck via the replacement 7 pin/12 pin connector. The sensors will require the valve stems to be replaced on the trailer tires. You can add two additional sensors for a total for 6 on the trailer if needed.

Good luck, those are on 6 month backorder. Check ebay, but be prepared they don't go cheap.

Shoot. Between the additional wiring, the wait, and the cost, I may decide a second screen isn’t that bad. I’d hoped all I had to do was get the stems put in.

I appreciate the kit info. I’ll do some shopping. Our first trip won’t be until May likely... so I have some time to figure it out.

I want to add this to my truck, but I don't have the Max Tow package. I believe that I can turn on via Forscan, but I don't want to bite the bullet if it can't be done. Does anyone have an insight in this?

@gdru I’m not sure. Just checked the forscan spreadsheet for the 2020, I only see options to turn on tpms and set the front and rear psi.
