Piston end gap

I’ve got a newly bored 8BA to .040 with a set of Hasting Rings and new pistons. I can’t find the end gap specs anywhere. I’ve started with the top ring and I am getting a .015 gap. How is this and where can I find the specs?

While I am not an expert, I have always used .004 end gap as a rule of thumb for the top compression ring. Are your rings made for the .040 pistons?

The workshop manual has the specs, and doesn't differentiate between gaps for Std and O/S pistons.

The rings I have are matched to the +.040 bore. The Hastings # is 533 040
