Here's a pic of the plate & door jamb on my Panel showing the original color and I don't believe the plate has been changed. I think I checked the frame number 20+ years ago when I bought the Panel the first time and they matched.
What does it look like faded diamond blue or platinum gray???

That's a U for sure. Your door looks Meadow Green, and doors can be changed, but the Door pillar is a light blue. If you see light blue paint in every hidden area where a repaint would not have touched then I say it was Diamond Blue originally.

It looks like your data plate had a typo. U was the code for Meadow Green in 54, 55, 56. see chart below. My 54 has R code for paint which in 54 was Vermillion Red. In 53 R was Meadow Green. But in 54 U was Meadow Green. So the guy on the data plate puncher screwed up. There was no sign of red on my truck and Grandpa's sales receipt says it was Meadow Green.

On my 48, I don't know what the original color is. I can't find any tags. Is there a way to know what it was?

If you look under the hood on the firewall, near the cowl seam, you should find your production code, which looks like a series of letters and numbers hand stamped on the firewall. The production code stamped on the firewall will have the color code, assembly plant, and month/day of assembly identified. If you can find and post that, we can decode that for you.

The main problem with color codes on these vehicles is that there is no cross reference between the manufacturer code and the "recipe" for mixing the paint. Chip books are great for getting an idea of what the paint looked like but if you take it to a paint jobber they just look at you like the counter kid at the local parts store when you ask for a 48 flathead water pump. I painted my buddy's 55 that was that "Diamond Blue"...he took a panel to Tri-Cities Paint in San Diego (TCP) and had them match the color. His paint is now named "Chucks 55 Blue" and the mix recipe is on file so he can have it mixed using their paint number.

Just to be clear, if you go back and look at what I wrote, I said November 25th, not November 1955. Without knowing the unit number, whether it's high or low, we can't tell the year built.

Thanks, I just assumed that a '56 would have ben built in Nov of '55 because by Nov of '56 Ford would have been producing '57s wouldn't they? Thanks again.
