Looking to purchase a crate motor. Shall I go with a Jasper engine or Fraser engine? Or does anybody Pulling this 6.8 V10 and looking for a crate motor. Any suggestions? Jasper? Fraser?
have any suggestions on this matter. I'm weighing more towards the Jasper class 1 at this moment
I wouldn't put a Jasper motor in my lawn mower, after the last experience I've had with them. My FIL had a 6.4 from them that had 3 different sized pistons in it - you just can't do that with a diesel or it will run rough and tear itself apart, just like his did.
I've never heard of Fraser, even though I apparently live near their headquarters.
If you have time to pull it and wait, I'd see if a local engine builder could go through it for you. If you need it quick, a reman will be best.
I don't think "Fraser" supply's Ford Remans. You can still get a "new" 6.8 crate engine from Ford. Ford still has new long blocks for the E350 vans. I believe AER( Remanufactured Engines | AER Manufacturing)is the rebuilder for Ford gasoline engines, and I think they are in Texas.

I think the big reman places are all a craps shoot. I remember one guy on here posting pictures of the Ford/Motorcraft reman he had to take out shortly after installing. During the tear down he found there were different length rods, different sized pistons, poorly machined parts. I'd either look for a low mileage used engine or find a decent local rebuilder.
If you're after a diesel, US Engine Production seems to have decent engines. I've actually been in there shop, it's very clean and every motor is hand-rebuilt off a checklist. We picked up a 6.4 for my FIL's '08 there and that motor ended up being a tank.
