Ive owned my 1993 F-250 regular cab long bed N/A 5 speed with 130k miles since Thanksgiving 2020. I put new tires on it the after I bought it, changed the oil and that’s that’s about it. I’ve put probably less than 500 miles on it due to the cold winter days we’ve had in ND this year. It doesn’t leak one drop of oil on the ground, nothing. There is however old oil build up around the valve covers, exhaust manifolds and oil filter area. I went to check the oil the other day it was damn near 3 quarts low. Wtf right? Now I figure it’s been burning the oil like crazy. It smokes pretty good upon start up, it’s mainly white and I haven’t seen that bluish color that people talk about. What do I do? Think it’s worth tracking down and fixing the problem if it’s burning that bad? Or just cut my loss and let her go?
Fill it up to the bottom of the crosshatch area and see if it moves then.
Alot of people myself included noticed if you fill it all the way to the top of the crosshatch it quickly gets rid of it til almost the ad mark then doesn't really move at all.
CDR will not cause this issue. It's open unless it detects vacuum and then closes to prevent the engine from sucking up excess oil and running away.
No way in any shape or form will a cdr cause oil consumption because it just doesn't have the ability to keep oil from passing by it unless it shuts from a clogged air filter.
Yeah I’ve checked the blow by and as far as I can tell there is hardly any.
You have no idea of blowby unless you first block off the CDR since most all blowby is routed through it. Then blowby is checked with a manometer to see if it's within specs. And like DOC posted, a CDR can't cause oil consumption.
I'm told that AutoRx has been effective in IDI's for reducing oil consumption. But I agree - a "full" sump diminishes quickly in my limited experience, but not so much in a linear manner.

Any more info on this? If I remember right, when my oil was refilled at the last oil change, it took more than what the manual said to get the oil level to the full mark on the dipstick.

You are correct, the full mark is technically "over full" so maybe that's why it eats it away..
I've had good luck with everything except shell rotella t, for whatever reason with a warm motor it consumed that stuff quicker than anything else.
My preferred oil is Mobil delvac 15-40 super, it's cheap and is a synthetic blend with better wear protection than shell rotella t-5 for five bucks less a gallon..
I also run the powerpoke fl-1995 filter, it's 10$ at either Walmart or O'Reilly and it takes an extra quart over stock.
That's very interesting to know. Mine definitely burned down to the bottom of the hashes and if it does it again, I'm not topping off unless it burns further. I used Valvoline Premium Blue 15W40 at last oil service and plan to switch to Delo 400 next time. I'm using the OEM Motorcraft filters.
you don't add oil til it hits the add mark.... as long as it's in the cross hatch all good. there is no point to try keep the level to the top of the cross hatch.
Where do you find this Crazy Oil? I`ve been to every parts store in town.
No one has heard of it.
I use Wally World`s 15/40 brand oil. Buy in the 2 gallon jugs, been using
it a long time. Around $20 a jug, along with the Motorcraft FL-1995 filter.
$9.44 plus tax at Wally World.
