Terrible Horn Button Design

My 95 has an airbag. As such, the horn is actuated by either one of two little, hard to find buttons on the wheel.

On newer vehicles, the horn is actuated by hitting the air bag, not unlike the traditional type horn button.

If I ever need the horn in a hurry, I'm probably not going to get to it. Especially if the wheel is anywhere but straight ahead.

Are there any solutions to this out there?

Here are just three solutions. Amazon has all kinds of add on horn buttons, including rocker mount.

I don’t know how long you have owned the truck but I got used to it on the ‘94. Wasn’t that hard to find the buttons. Another option

I actually like the separate buttons, my dads 04 F150, you can never find where to push on air bag, for horn to work,
my wife on the other hand, on one of her less 'lady like' days, will beat the air bag to death, and I'm afraid it will deploy,
and she needs the 3rd one, yardbird posted...cheaper in long run to replace

My '97 F350 is non-airbag...I don't know how much different my steering wheel is from yours, but I have missed the horn "buttons" numerous times when I suddenly wanted to blast some other idiot driver...or honk at a friend. Once the opportunity has passed, it's gone forever. I'm old enough to remember horn rings on the steering wheel that you could never miss!

Still easier than my 79 Fairmont was to honk.

push the turn signal stalk in toward the column to honk.

I’ve been driving since 1997 and can probably count on one hand how many times I’ve legitimately needed to honk the horn. People tend to use it to “voice” their road rage much too often I think. With that said, there’s two buttons on your wheel to push, easily accessible with your thumbs.

When I drive, my thumb is with the hand that is grasping the rim...not the crossbar. In days of yore there was the "rim blow" steering wheel...much to my liking, btw. Better to "voice" the road rage and drive on than to stop and physically altercate. I've been driving since '65 and have run out of hands, feet and appendages thereon to count the times when I "legitimately" needed or wanted to honk...and did...and I'm considered a quiet gal. Your points are well taken, however.

On my 93, airbag-less.. I can't count how many times I have accidently honked the horn and the air horn wired into it.. usually while futzing around inside the truck while it's parked.. gotta be the most sensitive horn button I have ever encountered. BUT when I need it and have a couple times.. I beat the center of that wheel like it's a tom-tom.

same here . i have hit the horn accidently way more times than i had to hit it while driving.
i have probably only needed to use the horn three-four times in the past 51 years.

If I had my personal preference, I'd be running around disconnecting horn buttons in every car on the road. Rarely are they used for any sort of good purpose, and are just used as some sort of passive-aggressive "you idiot" button. I can honestly say I've never used mine, in any one of my vehicles. My hotrod, my Jeep, and my '75 F250, the horns aren't even there, and they won't ever be, unless some sort of inspection in the future requires me to put them on there.
