I must say, I love my truck. But why did they put such a sissy horn in it. Toot toot. Plus the buttons on the wheel are hard to locate when you are sitting in traffic at night. A nice truck with such a piddly horn. I did go and put a deisel horn in and wired a separate button on the dash...but I would be interested in hearing from others who have had fustrations with their horn. (99F150 4.2L)

Reason: misspelling
hhmmm... I always thought the horn had more ***** than any other I've used... I am disappointed with my electic air horn though... the truck's sounds better.
You can't see the cruise contol buttons on the steering wheel? Are the lights burned out? Mine is nice and bright. As for the horn, no complaints on my part.
on my dad's 98, the horn sounds different. it is really high pitched, sounds like it might have something in it. any one else have this problem or know anything about this?
Your truck should have two horns mounted to a bracket on the passenger side of the radiator support. Each horn has it's own tone which blend together to form the correct sound. If one of those horns isn't working, the other will sound a bit dull in tone. I replaced the horns and mounting bracket (sold as one part) on my 1999 Expy after I had a similar problem and found the wiring to be OK. Sounds OK now.
On my '01 F150, the low note horn went out at 28,000 mikes approx. Got warrenty to replace it. Now,at 52,000 miles, the same thing happened. Ford says to bad...... The '96 Ranger I bought after its rool over came with the low note out. Now, the '04 rental E350 I drive for work came with the low note out also. Must be something about Az. cuz I sure don't "overuse" the horns. Looking for a non air horn that is loud and not real high in price. Any suggestions as to brand and part numbers?
That is part of the reason I do not like the small air horns. Cold adffects them plus there is a slight delay between pressing the horn button and the "noise" which makes a difference in an emeregency. I always used the FIAMM models but cannot find the type any more. I have heard that the WOLO's are good but have not heard them.
