testing ideas
plan is is to make some pcm extension cables and swap the connections
purpose is to see if a fault I am getting on primary alternator will follow the alternator when I make the primary the secondary. Suggesting bad primary
if it doesn’t follow and faults remain with logical primary circuit, this would suggest problem with primary circuit pcm connection or pcm.
so I plan to do this today
putting it out there in case there is some spooky reason this won’t work
prinary is the 153amp alternator and secondary is the 220 amp alternator
my assumptions used that the pcm pin out connections are the same.
getting a battery light with service charging circuit now
local dealership has zero warranty appts til july
if it turns out to be an alternator , my spring this out of pocket
also have a voltage regulator on the way which could make this a very low cost repair .
thanks
This kind of news makes me question Ford and their priorities towards customer satisfaction. Im just so blown away by the lack of customer service
Good Luck my friend, dont do something that Ford is going to reject fixing due to you messing with the truck
I thought in you pr other test of the main fuse issue was where you would find something. What if you bypass that circuit?
ny test is not going to happen
cant get the pcm connector on the secondary alt off.
the primary came off no problem.
looks like this is the end of the diy adventure
was hoping to verify a primary alternator problem and I would of probally replaced it my self rather than do the out of state warranty appt.
anyone have a number at Ford USA I can call to complain?
thanks

Haven't done it for awhile but used to full field alternators, if output is good (inductive amp meter) regulator or module, if not it's the alternator. There used to be A or B circuits. A fields were given ground to output and B were given juice. Nothings simple anymore.
Thanks for posting problem. The alternators simple, it's the control side that is complicated. Of course unplug wires.
Your local dealer needs to Ford up and help you. I would be talking to the service manager, the sales manager and the unit manager. Their shop needs this work and it’s utterly ludicrous they are not fitting you in. They don’t have trucks to sell, they are laying off dealer employees, no sales, not enough service business and when they do get some warranty work to pay their staff they don’t want to give you an appointment for 4 months.
Sorry for the rant, I feel for you!

I also looked at the local dealership site to see if there was a survey link and wound up on a chat with their internet response team. I asked them for a link to rate the 22 feb service response I got and they took my info.....a few minutes later...service manager emails me and says they will find an appt.
so maybe will not have to go out of state after all.
