Anyone know if Ford allows you to pick up your new ordered truck direct at the factory like VW and Audi do?

Ford does not allow it.
The vehicles do not leave the assembly line ready for delivery. The truck software is in "transport mode", and many little things need to be done before the truck is ready for an owner. This process is called dealer prep. Furthermore, Ford is not in the retail car business. The entire cost structure is set up for a very complicated financial relationship with dealerships. Only the dealers are set up to do retail sales.

 

Mercedes has it as well. I did the European deliver on a MB back in 2013. Awesome experience.

 

Yep, here is another.... The Ford truck plant in Wayne sits across the street from jack Demmer ford. You are still charged $1600 for them to drive it less then 1/4 mile from where it was made to where you picked it up. Remember everybody but you gets rich when you buy a vehicle.

I can say that, I work for the crooked scheme! But I am not getting rich like some!

 

Could be worse.... Ford trucks could be priced like an apple iPhone.... $30 worth of parts and labor, priced at $1500! If ford priced trucks that way, my f350 would be $1.5 million!

 

The transportation fees are fixed to spread the costs out amongst all buyers so someone buying a truck in Anchorage AK pays the same as the buyer who's purchasing from a dealer across the street from the truck plant. If you could save on the transportation costs, then many people would buy from that dealer next to the plant. This scheme is how it works for all manufacturers because that is how the teamsters union negotiates that contract.

 

I'm going from a 2006 6.0 (owned since new) that only had 84k miles on it to a 6.7 with 1050 # of torque and the wait is killing me. Sold me 6.0 to the first guy who looked at it for $20k so I feel good about what I got. It was in FANTASTIC shape. I use them like a truck should but take EXTREMELY good care of my stuff. This will most likely be my last truck I buy. As I am almost 50 and only put an average of 3k miles a year on my trucks. I have a Chevy 1/2 ton that I beat the hell out of (company truck but I own the company)

 

This is all true but, it's amazing the transportation cost difference between ford vehicles. The escape made in India is cheaper then an f150. Seems ford also wants their cash cow cashing for everyone in the chain.

 

Ford produces Escapes for the US market at its Louisville Assembly Plant in Kentucky. Escapes are also made in China, but those are not imported to the US. As fas as I know, Ford doesn't have any plants in India.
