Hey guys, I've got a 97 F250, 105K miles. I've been putting it off for a while since its quite a bit of work to pull the motor, but my oil pan gasket is leaking. About to tackle this one. With the motor out, i plan to do some other maintenance and performance mods Currently the truck has intake, exhaust, hydra and axle swap. Below is everything im replacing. I already have everything. Let me know if i am missing anything or if you would recommend doing something different.
Oil pan gasket
Oil cooler O rings and gasket
Low pressure oil pump
replace the dip stick nut
New starter
HPOP rail plugs
Riff Raff up pipes
EBPV delete pedestal
FFD 180cc injectors
CNC Stage 2 HPOP and lines
HPX
Martys Efuel
KC balanced assembly
John wood valve body
I just had reason to pull the water pump and saw a good bit of baked-on crud covering the internal passages. Truck is getting a coolant filter with the new pump as I do not want that stuff coming lose and mucking-up the new water pump.
97-PSD - The injectors are 180/0. As of now, i do not do much heavy towing. I tow my bay boat, but thats not much. Looking to get a smallish camper in the future.
7.3 forever - i thought about it, but i called around to several suppliers like Riff Raff and 1023 and everyone said i should be fine as is, but going bigger on injectors from here i would need to upgrade them.
JaytheCPA - Thanks, i will look into it. This is the first time i am seeing that one recommended. But from what you are saying it sounds like it could not hurt. These trucks do not have one stock, correct?
Correct, the trucks to not come with an OE coolant filter. The Navistar version of pump which also fits on the SD 7.3 has an integrated filter, but Ford decided to go a different path and not do this.
Point is, one never knows how well (or not) the previous owners cared for the trucks, so adding extra protection certainly will not hurt. Even low mileage motors will benefit from a coolant filter as this motor is known for having extra sand leftover from its casting.
Personally, I had debated whether to add a coolant filter as any casting leftovers should have worked themselves out of the 350's system by now. But when I saw the coolant passages exposed, my next move was to get a filter.
I have a better picture somewhere but this one gives you an idea. I only put about 3K on this filter, it was put on my last PSD with 172K.
Returning to the scene of the crime, I guess...It's good to see everyone...I can't believe Talyn's Thread is STILL Going! LOL, Classic!
I'm wanna stay plugged in a little more...the past 10+ years have been HELL! I need some FTE Therapy! Yelling, cussing when busting my knuckles on sharp rusty things on a cold day will may help in an odd way, lol
