EZ Wiring Questions

Hey everyone. So I’m about 75% of the way through a complete rewire job on my 1966 custom cab. I’m using an EZ wiring 12 circuit harness. I did an old Chevy years ago with an EZ wiring kit, but it had a GM column and a GM one wire alternator, so things were a little more straight forward. So far I’ve got the front and rear lights done, and the charging system done. Now I’m working in the cab.

So I’ve got a few questions, and I know a lot of folks have used this kit, so hopefully someone can shed some light here for me.

1. There is an orange wire labeled Brake Switch Power and a white wire labeled Brake Switch. I’m assuming that both of these route through the firewall and connect to either side of the hydraulic brake light switch?

2. There is a blue wire labeled Wiper Power. My wiper switch has a couple of wires running from it to the wiper motor, and an empty terminal at the top of the switch. Is that where this wire connects to? Originally if I recall there used to be a green wire coming off the center post of the ignition switch going to this terminal at the top of the wiper switch.

3. Heater- the kit doesn’t have a circuit for the heater, but it does have two black wires one labeled A/C Heat Power and another labeled A/C Compressor. Is this what I use to power the heater? And how?

4. There are also two grey wires, one labeled Fan Fan and one labeled Fan Power. Are these both for an electric fan, or is fan the same as blower in this sense and should this be used to power the heater?

5. How do you wire the Alt and Oil warning lights on the gauge cluster?

6. As for the ignition switch, the EZ instructions just provide a conversion chart for GM to Ford, but not having any of the original wiring it’s not helpful. I need to know on which terminal to connect which wire of the EZ kit. I have a standard factory ignition switch, but the terminals are unlabeled. Can someone draw a picture and tell me where these wires go on my switch?
IGN SW PWR=RED to YELLOW
IGN SW IGN=PINK to RED/GREEN
IGN SW ACC=ORANGE to BLACK
IGN SW START=PURPLE to WHITE/BLUE

I’ll have plenty more questions, but that’s all for now. Thanks!

1) You need 3 wires, if the 2 you have go to the switch, which sounds correct you also need a 3rd connection to feed the stop wire in the directional signal switch. That white wire should end at the signal switch.

2) goes to the yellow wire on the wiper switch

3) the one marked AC heat power should power the blower motor switch. It's marked B on the blower switch

4) If you're not using a rad fan, ignore those for now.

5) I gave you the wiring diagrams for Start and charge, see if they help.
6) this is the ignition switch.

There are two wires coming down out of the drivers side A pillar. I’m guessing one is probably for the gas tank sender, but I have no idea why it would have been routed this way rather than on the floor under the door sill, and the other wire I have no idea. This truck does not have a dome light, but is it possible that Ford just ran this wire anyway whether there was a dome light option or not? What else could this wire be for?

And should I bother to fish the new fuel sender wire up through the pillar and across the roof? Or just run on the floor?

Wires on the floor are a BAD idea, over time they get crushed and short out.

If I remember correctly, the sender wire came up threw the floor. I'll see if I have any pictures of the routing. Well I don't think mine came threw the floor, I found a few pix and non of them showed the sender wire. So I have no clue.

That would be sender and dome light. Route them through the top, the way the truck was designed. As noted, wires on the floor are a bad idea. You may want to add the dome light back into your cab one day. I added a third wire in mine, in case I wanted anything else back there someday. That wire is coiled up by the filter neck.

Where do you recommend I connect the lighter? There is no lighter circuit on this harness. Should I just connect the lighter directly to the ACC on the ignition switch, or is there a better place? Or should I just use one of the unused wires like Power Antenna? I feel like there should be a fuse on the lighter circuit. Thanks!

I would run the lighter live from a battery hot lead. It doesn't need to be switched with the ignition. And definitely use a fuse. If you don't have one available use an inline fuse holder.

Yes the sending unit wire and a wire for a headlamp run up the drivers door pillar and over the door to back of cab

Okay one last question-

If I want to add a dome light, or courtesy lights under the dash and have them come on when I turn the **** all the way until it clicks, I would connect that light to D2 on the headlight switch, correct? But now does that also mean that I would have to run a hot wire to D1 to power those lights? Because the headlight switch is already getting power, I would assume I don’t need to run another 12v feed to the headlight switch just to power a dome light.

Thanks!

Correct, since you already have power at the headlight switch that will be source power for additional dash lighting.
