I've had my truck for a couple years now and I had recently found an old registration for it and I said it was a 1978 but the current one says it a 1979 dont know what's going on there, I've been trying to look up information about the truck and the sites I found have a bunch of letters on the door jam stickers where as mine is not filled out, I've decoded the vin and it said its cataloged year is 1978. Just wondering if anyone else has had a door jam sticker like this with no information on it
You've got four places on the truck where the VIN is displayed that I know of: 1, the metal Warranty Tag on the driver's door. 2,that data sticker on the driver's door jamb of the cab. (I forget what it's called, and Number Dummy probably isn't going to correct me...) And 3 and 4, two spots on the passenger side frame rail, one under the alternator, and the other under the passenger side floorboard - you'll need a mirror, or the camera feature on your 'smart' phone, to see that one...
You should 'reconcile' these VINs to make sure that they all match.

the metal warranty tag isn't on the door the holes where it should be riveted are there the trucks got the 79 front end on it, ill look tomorrow at the places you've said
That is a Safety Certification Label (aka the white sticker) and it is showing a build date of 7/78 so July of 1978 was its birthday. I believe that is considered late year by Ford (?) or the DMV, so that might be why it says 1979 on the title. I would be frame vi# locating and paper title # checking.
All that matters is the paper title Vi# matches the 11 digit VEH IDENT NO on that white sticker. And they both match the truck frame stamp. Yes you should have a Warranty Plate riveted to the dvrs side door edge and it would have the vi# also. And the info to decode. You can get replacement plates and labels from Marti Auto. https://www.martiauto.com/
And correct there are 2 places the vi# is stamped on the frame. Just like where mean green said. But since your is 4wd is will not be in line with the alt and more with the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. See the red box? And yes most of the time the white sticker does not have the info and it is on the Warranty plate.
Passenger side frame rail, see the exhaust manifold?
Under the cab, if you have a bad floor great time to locate the vi#, because you have about 1" clearance from cab floor to frame rail top. See the arrow pointing to the white chalk mark? Just aft of the 2 cross member bolt nuts.
