Flat deck kit

I have a 1948 F68 (F3) long box that I am considering putting a flat deck on. It has most of the standard box but a stake truck bed has some real attraction for me. I think, but not sure, there was a flat or stake bed option back then.
So I am asking for your collective wisdom on how to approach this or what advice, sources I could research?
Thank you
CJ21

I think it would look cool if you cut down the bed sides to just above the rear fenders, reinforce the bed, and incorporate a flat bed with a headache rack. The original bed doesn't or won't be of much use, but you could build pullout drawers for storage.

Something like the best of both worlds.

Just a thought !!!

Ford made stake flatbeds with Ford script on the back. Most of the flatbeds I’ve seen were all either farmer built or custom built by local companies of the time. I have never personally seen a Ford script flat bed locally in Alberta. Never seen one for sale either. Not sure why that is other than most of the trucks were bought for hauling grain so a stake bed wasn’t much use. Most of the trucks were modified with hoists and high sideboards like yours. Cut a hole in the tailgate and there you go, grain truck. So I think you would have to build one. I have one here that I pulled off of on old truck. It’s been a while since I looked at it but I think it’s in not bad shape. I will never use it. Chris If you want to come look at it and see if it’s something your interested in. You can have it for nothing. Doug.

If you do replace your express bed, don't scrap it no matter how bad it is. I'm sure there are F3 owners willing to buy it.

There were stock F-1 and F-2/3s with flatbeds. I had an F-2 flatbed some years back. One difference I know if the flatbed trucks had shorter, wider running boards. They have two running board brackets that are longer than the pickup truck brackets.

So did Ford of Canada sell few or no trucks with the Script flatbed on them?

I honestly don’t know. I assume that most of the city trucks that probably had stake beds on them disappeared many years ago to the scrap yards where all the farm trucks got parked out behind the barn only to reappear now still in their original condition. ,Doug.

That is a sharp truck. Awesome color, graphics, 4x4 and even a winch!

I built my flatbed with a utility theme. 4" round tubing double as an air tank. Tie down anchors in each corner. 1 upright is air intake and other is exhaust. PTO winch. I want to build some type of short removable side.

1st time out last year. Indy 4 wheel jamboree

These are pictures of a '48-50 F-3 I bought a few years back. The bed was in almost mint condition. I parted the truck out and sold the bed to a fellow FTEr.
