Hello everyone. It has been quite awhile since I have been on the forum. Life the past year has been utterly insane for me. I plan on updating my build thread soon as I have done some pretty decent work on the truck and want to get that updated.
Before that however I have an issue and could use some help.
I did some work on the transmission, new pan gasket and tail shaft seal, and filled back up but I have a leak at the top of the transmission on the passenger side from what appears to be a bolt but its not. It has a loose "cap" of some sort on it. The only diagram I could find that possibly shows it says its a vent but I am not sure. I was hoping for some clarification from anyone that might know. I am adding a picture of it from a random internet pic I found. Can't get in there to take a pic since my transmission is in the truck and that spot is obscured.
Thanks as always!

Yes that is the trans vent. It should not be leaking fluid.
Did you run it since you filled it? If the engine hasn't run the converter is still empty and there is too much fluid in the barrel of the trans. This will have the level high enough that it will run out of the vent. If you start the engine and let it run a minute or two it will refill the torque converter and the level inside the trans will go down where it belongs.
It should be the vent I would think,,possible causes range ,,Over full ? How much did it take to fill ? Wrong dipstick ? Fluid to hot ? Cooler line obstruction at radiator ? Cooler lines blocked or some type of obstruction in the line ?
When you checked the level was it running and in gear or in park?
I think the C6 is in park at idle and up to temp.
How many qt of ATF did you pour into it after the work?
You did not change the filter or any other work other than the pan gasket & rear housing seal?

Thanks for all the quick replies guys.
I have not started the truck yet as I am also doing work on the engine. I had to replace the oil pan (that was not fun with the engine still in the truck) and have to get that filled back up as well.
I kind of figured it was a vent and I most likely put too much in. I couldn't remember how many quarts it took last time I did this so I probably just have too much in there and need to run it first. But before I did I wanted to make sure that wasn't something else I should be worried about.
I will run it once I get the engine buttoned up and oil back in it.
Thanks!
