I have a 2006 f250 superduty 6.0. 136000 miles. I'm a marine diesel guy and need some help with my truck. I know I have a number 4 injector miss faulty #3 and# 6 glow plugs are bad. The last couple times I've drove the truck. I get that loud roar like a (garbage truck) like it's under a load but it's not under a load and my turbo boost goes up. Today when this happened I noticed my temp gauge shoot up to the red. The roar from the turbo coincides when with throttle use . So I coasted into my neighborhood and the temp went back down to normal. What the heck guys?
Turbo "roar" would be more like a whistle through the exhaust (Most people like the sound when achieved on purpose), Sounds like the "Garbage Truck Roar" (from when Mine did it) sounds like the cooling fan revving up to me, as to a cause I don't know, never figured mine out, but mine never had high temps or high boost when it did that either, the rest sounds like what mine did. I don't/didn't have an injector out but I do also have a couple glow plugs out, but like i'm sure you know (being a diesel tech, all-be-it in the marine world) they're only in use before'during startup.
I moved your thread from the 1999-2016 Super Duty truck forum to the 6.0L Power Stroke engine forum. The members here know a lot about the 6.0L and how to keep it healthy.
Yep, I'd bet that sound is the fan as well. When I bought my first 6.0, I didn't know what it was, thought it was the transmission slipping. Since your temps also shot up, the fan may be working correctly, and you just have an overheating issue. Really need to get a device to read live data and codes from the OBDII. Local auto parts store might read the codes for you, which would be a start. All you need is a wireless OBDII connector, either Wifi (for Apple phones) or Bluetooth (for Android). A popular one is made by BAFX - look on Amazon or Ebay - and costs less than $30. Then download either TorquePro (friendlier user interface/display) or Forscan (better code reader) to your phone for $5.
The roar description made me think of the radiator fan also. But if it's roaring that means its running. Could just be a bad thermostat, or possibly a clogged-up radiator.
