With these old trucks there’s only so much we can do to make them safer. One of my first tasks was to install 5 point seat belts. I also plan to eventually install front disk brakes. I’m thinking about headrests too, perhaps I can scavenge some from a junk yard and fabricate bracket to connect to the seat.

@bobj49f2 Back in 2005 I bought myself a brand new Volvo. About a week later a truck the a load of scrap metal was in front of me and a piece about 6” long flew off. I thought it was going to come through my windshield and take me out, but it bounced off my hood before it hit and glanced off the windshield. So my brand new car had a dent in the hood and a cracked windshield. My RAM 1500 has a tonneau so stuff in my bed doesn’t fly out,

@Waygonner i haven’t commuted in NJ traffic in many years. I remember it being a scary experience everyday. For a long time my commute was to EWR and the drive to the airport was the worst part.
OK, Jersey Boys, I've driven to the Jersey Shore, down to Wildwood, across many of the Philly bridges across the Delaware. I've been on the NJ turnpike, and the Garden State Parkway. I've been on rte 80 in central Jersey, to the JFK airport, and in northern Jersey on my way to West Point. But I don't know what or where EWR is! Where is that?

Yeah, EWR newark liberty airport. When I was working I traveled a lot so when people asked where my office was I’d answer EWR.

In Iowa so far the winter season has had 45 snow plow accidents, all of them rear-ending the plows or side swiping. A little brains goes a long ways.

From what I have observed lately most people don't seem to have any sense of self preservation. I drop my wife off at work at the local Costco store. I drop her off just to the side of the main entrance of the store. I drive a full size Ram 2500, big red beast. I'll drop her off and start to pull away and never fails there are people who just walk out of the store without turning their heads to check to see if anything is coming at them. The same goofy people are wearing useless masks to protect them from a relatively harmless virus but don't think nothing of stepping in front a 2 1/2 ton vehicle that can really harm them. This isn't one or two people, I would guestimate at least over 50% of the people entering and exiting the building. My wife says it the same inside the store, people will not move over to let anyone pass and they run their shopping carts into other people without looking to see where they are going.

Just a comment Bob, I don’t know if the masks work, but I started wearing one when I go into customers houses. The relatively harmless virus killed my brother 11-1-20. Kinda changes my perspective on things. Dennis

Sorry Dennis, didn't mean to cause any problems but there are angles to every story. I understand where you're coming from but there is also a lot of devastation caused by the overhyped panic that is not health related. I'm just more than a little frustrated how this is all being handled. Again, I apologize, I just wanted to show how people are scared by one danger and totally ignore another. My favorite to see is a person who walks outside, removes their masks and then lights up a cigarette. I've know a lot more people who died of cancer than of the covid flu.

I now wear seat belts. Back in 91 I was driving my company 86 I think Taurus and going only 35 mph and a car pulled out in front of me and I t-boned it broke the passengers right foot or leg. I was not wearing a seat belt and all my work items came flying up front with me thankfully it was just some note books and paper but ever since I have had on a seat belt while in front. I know I need to wear one while in the back seat as the front passengers don't want 300 lbs of lard squashing them. My 55 has a place for seat belts and shoulder harness and when I get the new seat back in it will have seat belts.Anything we can do to keep us a little safer I am all for.I could still drive the Tarus but the other car had to be towed and as the accident was wrapping up the cop backed up and asked me if I was wearing a seat belt . Ya I lied.Drive safe and see you all in Pigeon Forge..

That "relatively harmless virus" has killed nearly a half-million people.

Vern, what you have just said is simply not the case. Right from the very beginning of this pandemic, Covid deaths in the US were counted differently then how deaths traditionally were counted from other diseases. It is estimated that less then 10 precent of the inflated number you state actually died FROM Covid. There is an important distinction between dying FROM Covid and dying WITH Covid. In the past, we used to make this distinction when determining cause of death, but we didn't for whatever reason with Covid.

If you do some looking, you will also find evidence of the testing parameters and procedures that were manipulated to produce as many positive Covid test results as possible. This greatly inflated the numbers of individuals WITH Covid. A related search might be to look at the number of flu cases and deaths this year. Typically there are millions of cases and tens of thousands of deaths. This year, there are hardly any.

I'm not looking to start another big discussion or get another thread closed, but we do need to keep ourselves grounded in reality when topics that affect all of us, some very personally like Dennis, are brought up.

Jim

Hey Jim, I guess it’s a matter of opinion. I watch ABC news every night and I believe what they tell me for the most part. If they say there’s been a half-million deaths I believe it regardless of how the tally was made. I wear a mask everywhere I go and will get my Covid shot to combat this harmless virus ASAP. I hope everyone else who is concerned that this virus is far from harmless will do the same.

I didn't mean to open up a whole different discussion. Let's drop it and get on with the original subject. Just too much difference of opinion on the virus, we can all usually agree on trucks.

I’m sorry about your brother. I haven’t lost anyone that close, but I have lost 2 friends.

let’s lighten it up a bit. This guy proves that masks work in a very funny way. I’ve also read several scientific articles that support wearing masks as a virus protection measure. Also note, flu deaths were down about 30% last year.

ok, did you know that if you never leave your shop you won’t get the virus?

Unless some one walks into my shop who has it and coughs and sneezes all over me, and even then most likely I won't have any affects from it. I have this thought from going around for the last year encountering people in close proximity and not getting sick. I know there are other that will be sicken by an infection but not most.
