Ok, in hindsight I wish I had hooked up the computer and had it running when I drove it the 80 miles round trip to my friends house so we'd have that data. Thank you for the data and taking the time to walk a frustrated person through the issue.

Update... after getting everything back together with the new wiring harness, immediately threw a non-illuminated p204c code, and after about 5 minutes idling, the dash lit up with the '50 miles to speed limit 50mph exhaust system failure' message.
Waiting on the dealership to call me back (again...) to let me know what they plan on doing to fix this. In the meantime... I'm open to suggestions/possible causes besides the ground being loose (only real thing I could find online for that code...)
