Hello all, i have a 2000 f350 7.3 diesel 4x4. The last 4 snow storms, my 4x4 worked perfectly. Today, in the snow, i got stuck in 3 different driveways. I know its the hubs that are a problem because my driver side hub will continue to spin past the locked position. You can just infinitely spin the locking hub. Im assuming that there is something inside that is stripoed or broken.
How do I know how many splines the hub has without taking it apart? Can I plug my vin in somewhere and find out? And is this something I could go about fixing on my own? I have basic tools, basic skills, minimal time, and even less money.
Should I get Warns, Milemarkers, Moog, or something else? I can't deal with a weak component like the OEM bs. I plow and occasionally go offroad to go hunting. I don't need anythimg crazy like the DYNATRAC
ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

Reason: Typo, missing info
It sounds as though the plastic on the backside of the 'handle' has given out. This sometimes happens.
If you go to something like Advance Auto and put in your truck's make, model, and year, it will show you the correct-splined options. Warn's website used to break it out like this as well, I don't know if it still does. Warn is still a very good brand, Milemarkers some people swear by but I hesitate to suggest them because last I knew their warranty was only 1 year while Warn was still doing 5+ years.
I don't believe you have the vacuum-powered manu-matic hubs, so you shouldn't need to worry about blocking off the vacuum lines.
Everything else you can do with simple hand tools (mostly allen wrenches and a small screwdriver to pull the 'spring ring', basically a coil of thin steel that actually holds the hub in) without even pulling the tire, though it may make it easier to access everything if you do remove the tire.
Mile Marker Hubs are great for the price, I have installed them on a few trucks including my own and never had any issues with them. 449SS is the part for the 99-04 Superduty and Excursion.
Have to agree, the 449ss is damn near bullet proof and super easy to not only install but if you think its broke, to take apart and diagnose. I put too thick a grease in mine first and they were sticky, the guy from mile marker was like "Uhhhh, you broke one plowing? Yeah, NO, take it out and I'll walk you thru it" I had it in pieces in under 2 minutes and he just told me not to use the heavy truck wheel bearing grease again, just slick it up with some white lithium and put it back in. Worked for 6 more years I had it, and the guy who bought it beat the tar out of the truck on logging roads and off road and he never broke the hubs. They really are uber strong and worth every penny. PS you have a dana 60 axle in that truck.
A 2000 SRW would have the Dana 50 but it doesn't matter the 50 and 60 both use the same outers.
Good catch. He's 100% right. The 60 was used in duallys while the 50 was in singles, in 01 the single 60 was available and by 03 all 4x4 super duties used 60's. same outer components its the inners are smaller and less beefy in the 50.
