Hi Guys
I have an issue on my 2000 f-250 5.4l. I have replaced the thermostat, radiator, heater core, and new coolant. It’s 6 degrees here in northwest Missouri. In town I get nice heat but when I get out on the Highway at 70 I get warm to no heat. Is there anything else I can do to get heat? Could I put a piece of cardboard in front of the radiator?
That's strange. I would think the tstat would keep the coolant at 190 degrees or whatever no matter the conditions. Are you sure that tstat is a good one?
Let's rule out a couple of simple things...does your degas bottle have coolant in it? With the engine running, can you feel warm/hot coolant running through both heater hoses that go to the heater core? If those two steps are good it is worth pulling your glovebox out and checking the blend door actuator. I would strongly suggest pulling the actuator out, and with the KOEO (key on engine off)...rotate the temperature **** on your dash to see if the actuator moves or not. If it doesn't move and the fuses in your fusebox are good...there is your problem. A new Motorcraft actuator is $45-$70 depending on supplier; Dormans are cheaper than that.
Just to make sure I'm on the same page with you...the heat/air keeps coming out the vents where you have selected (dash, floor or defrost)? If the air starts coming out of random locations...need to check for a vacuum leak. If your truck is a 4WD, it is possible that a vacuum line to a hub is leaking and casing the HVAC to discharge in random places. While thermostats can fail out of the box (they are mechanical) without a OSB based scan tool, there is no way to know what the actual temperature is and if it's stuck open. The dash gauge is an over-glorified idiot light. Have you ruled out the blend door actuator by removing it and checking to see if it turn with power from the temperature ? If everything else is good, and the actuator turns like it's supposed to...might be a broken blend door.
The blend door actuator is working. When I switch it to the floor with the **** it goes to the floor. All that is working. Driving in town I have good heat but when I get on the highway the heat goes away.
Walter75,
A cold weather grill kit may help. I have used a piece of cardboard in a pinch. Make sure you don't completely cover the radiator and make sure you remove it when it warms up(ask me how i know....). good luck
Hi Guys
i was talking to a guy about my heat problem. He told me that my Heater Control Valve could be bad. My truck does not have one. I never seen a vacuum hose for one. Can you guy verify if my f-250 supposed to have the valve?
