Injection pump?

Up until today my truck has been running fine, when I went to start it today, it starts but acts like I’ve got the throttle wide open and it’s dumping fuel and stalling out. Can anyone tell me what the pictures part is so I can repair or replace

That is your cold idle advance, speeds up the engine when it is cold.
Gets to a certain temperature and then the solenoid pulls in the rod.
You can turn the hex end in or out to adjust the idle speed.

You could pull off the wire and disable it.

I pulled mine off, didn`t want the engine racing when I first start it.

no you do not need the cold idle solenoid i ran my 88 for 300,000 without it. only reason i put the new one on was because it was free.
when it is working, it should only increase throttle to around 1000 RPM unless someone really screwed it out.
when bad they usually do not work at all.
by looking at your picture, i bet your throttle cable is frayed inside preventing it from returning to idle.

My truck idles and returns to idle fine, but it runs and sounds like it’s getting entirely too much fuel and it stalls out. I’ll start it, it’ll run for about 20 seconds and it sounds like it’s drowning then it dies.

have you checked the fuel pressure to the IP ?

you could have a supply problem.

I haven’t checked, but it’s getting some fuel because it’ll start and run but it sounds like it’s getting too much fuel, am I able to post videos to show what it sounds like?

yeah my guess too....
like in example when a filter gets plugged the IP metering valve goes full open as it starves for fuel.

I've noticed 90% of the "I think my ip is bad" is usually either a fuel supply or return problem.

What lonewolf said about the metering valve is true too. If you were overfueling it would rev up not die.

Could be a choked up check valve on the IP where the return comes out, but I would verify supply pressure first, you could either have low pressure, air in the fuel or both..

So could a damaged return line be my issue? I know I’m getting fuel to the IP I cracked the line from the filter to the IP and fuel leaked out. But I noticed on the very rear of my engine the return like that runs under my glow plug control solenoid seams to be leaking. After cranking it today it does sound like it’s starved for fuel.

Definitely need to fix that, but it should still start and run without dying.

I'll bet you have a supply side problem if it won't stay running.

If it will start but slowlllyyyyy dies and no pedal will change the rpm then your return check valve is clogged

yea that’s pretty much what it’s doing, where is the return check valve located?
