Ok! So! I have a 2000 F250 4x4 that has screeching/squealing sound in front drivers side. It started 6mo. Ago. Sometimes not always would make this high pitched screeching sound when driving over 30mph and stopped around 55mph. I had new wheel bearing assay put in. When got truck back the screech was all the time over 30mph and never goes away unless slow back down below 30mph. It get louder when I go faster but does not get faster no change when I hit the brakes no change when accelerating just starts at 30 and continues. I then changed the front diff. Oil, new brake pads and calipers, had rotors checked still screech. So the truck has been parked for several months save a few farm chores. Fee days ago I pulled hub assembly and it's full of metal shavings! How and why!? Its got maybe 50 miles on it. I can not see where shavings are coming from dont see any rub Mark's or grooves. I have no idea what is causing. Please help I am not a mechanic to put it nicely and cant afford to hire 1. I'm in the dog house for buying such a "not practical truck" to begin with. I purchased the truck and issues started 2 weeks after I bought it. Covid caused world to shut down and I was laid off so now a big lifted broken truck is hard to defend to hubby so I must fix myself. All help appreciated ty in advance.
Question: When you say the hubs were full of shavings are you talking about the lockout hubs?
the wheel bearing assy? bolts into the knuckle. I'm sorry I have always been a thingymajigger description person prior to this but it's my understanding that its wheel bearing assembly it goes on outter axle shaft? I hope this helps if not I'll take pics
The pic w finger in it is the part I had replaced the wheel bearing assy. I only drove the truck 50 to 100 miles after it was replaced prior to this pic.
The picture with your finger. There looks like a groove in the shaft about 1/4" from the splines. Is that correct or camera angle. I'm not talking about the retaining ring groove. I am referring to the shiny spot on the shaft itself.

Good eye, but also why does it look like I'm seeing a nasty bur back where the needle bearing rides? And it almost looks blued from heat....maybe
But I agree the groove behind splines looks not good, although I'm not sure what would put it there...lockout maybe?
Replace the big seal.. check the bearings..new dust seal on the axle. Check u joint...
lube needle bearing if ok. replace if not....make sure you have the 3 washers and circlip...
Lets see the back of the bearing. washer and needle get grease....If you don't know what you are doing get someone to help...too expensive to be fooling around in there.

ty. When I look at the shaft naked eye I dont see anything but when I reviewed all my many pictures after your question the rub is in all of them. If I run my finger over the area I can feel a lower spot or slight change. I had the middle of the 3 washers was broken. The 1 shaped like octagon had maybe 1/4 of ot missing.

Respect guys cuz yall that help on all these questions like mine know ur stuff. I appreciate taking the time to reply to my post despite my limited mechanical skills. I got the new big seal and dust seal. I will check the u joint and let ya know thank you thank you for the help and suggestions!
