I got this tag from the bottom front of my '78 F250 truck bed. Can anyone help me decipher what it means? It is kind of hard to read I realize, but I would appreciate any help you could give me.
I’ve seen them referred to as “buck tags”. They can be found in the engine bay and underneath the truck. Some of the info is relevant (such as the VIN) but most of it can’t be deciphered. It was used my the assembly line workers to confirm certain info on the truck. Sadly there is no way to decode the info like you could with a door tag.
EDIT: that one doesn’t have the VIN but I believe the engine bay ones typically do. Don’t quote me on that though.
X2 thats a "buck tag" and I have never seen a way to decode them. And yes it is used for the assembly line guys. Some times they have a vi# and sometimes not.
Here's the one from the bed on my '76 F-250. I can't decipher it either.
Some of it is decipherable. Looks like the VIN up top. "133" surely denotes the wheelbase. "Mid" and "aft" has got to be the fuel tanks. Probably the truck's paint code(s) is on there too.
Foureyedpride has a decoding page where they've tried to figure out certain codes on buck tags, and I think the early Mustang crowd has made some inroads too.
If you have the build sheet, I noticed on my old 1982 Mustang GT that some of the codes on the buck tag were consistent with those on the build sheet, such as V for the light group.
Where is this rear buck tag on the bed? I haven't seen one under my truck, and neither of the cabs I've had on my truck still had/have their buck tag on the firewall.
I have one on my truck, though I haven't been underneath my truck recently to remember it's exact location. I'm pretty sure it's on the front, bottom side of the bed where it meets the cab. I remember seeing the tag when removing my driveshaft.
Yes, this comes from the front underside of the bed, just behind the cab. No, I don't have the build sheet for my truck.
Thank you for the help/support!
My '79 is a San Jose / Milpitas build and it's on the firewall near the vacuum brake booster hose support clamp. Can't remember the one on the bed, but pretty sure I've seen it.
