i'm going to be pulling the box off the truck soon so i can relocate my tank. anyone have any tips? i have an engine hoist and a few buddys to help. any idea of the weight of a long box without the tail gate?
Can do with typical engine hoist all the way extended. tailgate off will help. I used heavy cargo straps in corner anchors to make and 'X' and lifted from center of 'X'. Not sure of weight, guess 600-700 lbs w/ tailgate.
I left the tailgate on mine and pulled it off with the engine hoist. I extended the reach out and used some chains laying around with bolts through the bed mount holes. I have been rebuilding my truck completely with the engine hoist. I just dont like to ask for help unless I really need it.

Better option is to use a 2 post lift.
if i had a 2 post lift i wouldn't have needed to ask about this, lol.
Did my short bed by myself, tailgate still attached, with my engine hoist and two ratchet straps crossed in the X style as shown above. Just make sure you get all the bolts out and you should be good to go!!
I built a frame out of 2 x 4's , I took off the bumper and the rear tires and then lowered the back of the truck until it was just about an inch higher than the frame and slid it off on to the frame I had built by myself. When I built the frame I made the bottom runners so I could drag it in and out of the garage with my lawn tractor.
A Bull Nose, because of room and not caring that the hoist hit the bed side, other side of bed was crushed in a roll over, I did it from the side.
I have also used ratchet straps over the rafters in my garage to lift on and off the flare side bed when I was making a custom metal ribbed floor from the bed above.
You can also use the hoist to remove the cab, Guys make a wood jig to fit on the roof and the hoist/
I have also used the hoist and straps to pull the nose, less hood, off this roll over truck.
When you are a team of 1 you do what you have to to get the job done
